Cruelty-free cosmetics have really taken off over the past decade. The invisible hand of the market caused a sweeping industry overhaul in many nations, so in 2020, many cosmetics companies have already become cruelty-free.
But don’t make the mistake of assuming there’s a new industry standard.
Many companies do still test on animals, and many fluctuate between testing and not testing, causing some consumers to falsely rely on a company’s previous cruelty-free status.
Of the companies that do test on animals (see below), there are many that I never would have expected — even though I routinely check to make sure that I only buy cruelty-free products!
Some things, I didn’t think about as potentially being tested on animals, and others, I falsely assumed would be cruelty-free without actually checking.
Even if you aren’t someone who normally commits to buying only cruelty-free products, for the sake of being a conscious consumer, it’s good to know.
